The largest ever outdoor game played was the Cold War played at Spartan Stadium in 2001. At the time, the attendance of 74,544 people and it still holds as the record holder. Until The Big Chill at the Big House happening in 2010:

↵↵So much so, that ticket sales for December’s “Big Chill and the Big House” have been frozen at just over 100,000, so that students will have an opportunity to buy them soon.
↵↵That’s right, the next outdoor game between Michigan and Michigan State will have at least 100,000 people in attendance and will most likely sell out the Big House in Ann Arbor. Turning a regular season hockey game between two Division I schools and making it one of the biggest hockey games in history is somewhat genius.
