Bobby Cox Is Less Optimistic Than Jason Heyward About Heyward’s Return

Jason Heyward was pulled from Wednesday’s game with a sore groin, and was limited to pinch-hitting duty on Thursday. He then didn’t play on Friday, and though Heyward says he’s feeling better, Bobby Cox is a little more concerned about his prized young outfielder:

Cox said before Friday’s series opener that he hadn’t ruled out the DL possibility for Heyward, and was reluctant to use him again to pinch-hit this weekend for concern he’d only be able to backdate a DL stint to the day after he last played.

“I think it’s worse than day-to-day,” Cox said. “We’re gonna wait a few more days and see if it gets better. Hopefully we don’t have to disable him. That would be rough right now.”

Playing without Heyward for only the second time on Friday, the Braves were shutout and two-hit by Jamie Moyer.
