With Friday night’s hat trick performance in Game Four, Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews had one of those performances that essentially carried his team on his shoulders. He had the three goals and added another two assists contributing to 71% of his team’s goals. Our Chicago site, Second City Hockey, has something to say about that as well:
Chicago’s Captain Able To Carry Team On Shoulders Unlike Vancouver Captain
I could probably spend the entire wrap talking simply about Toews’ game - but hopefully you all saw it. This game will long be remembered by Hawk fans. The Hawks captain put the team on his back and carried them to victory. That cannot be said for the Canucks captain.. who now has the worst GAA and SV% of any remaining goalie in the playoffs.
Speaking of Luongo’s performance in the playoffs, it hasn’t been very good. He has allowed the most goals in these playoffs, 32, and as Second City Hockey mentioned a bad GAA of 3.27 and an even worse .892 SV%. Our Canucks site, Nucks Misconduct, has some reservations about his play in Game Four too:
In a crucial Game 4, the Captain, regardless of the broken defensive play (Bieksa), lets in a softie right through the wickets 18 seconds in. Now, that might not seem like such a big deal because the score ended up being 2-2 after the first period, but why put your team down and take the crowd out of it that early? Lousy timing Lou. Aside from that, he didn’t make any genius saves to help his team nor did his team do much to help him out.
The Canucks now face elimination and will try to keep their playoffs alive on Sunday night.
