The fourteen nations yet to name their 2010 World Cup teams will do so on Tuesday, the FIFA deadline for each of the 32 participating nations to finalize their 23-man World Cup rosters.
Cut Day: World Cup 2010 Squads To Be Finalized On Tuesday
Coming into Tuesday, 18 of the tournament’s 32 teams had named their final teams, including tournament favorites Brazil and Spain. A number of other prominent nations had finalized their teams, including Argentina, France, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United States.
Amongst those teams that have not named their teams are four teams ranked amongst the world’s top ten: England, Germany, Italy and Portugal. Portugal is down to 24 and are expected to cut one defender, while the other three nations must make significant cuts.
The other nations who will name their final squads on Tuesday: Algeria, Australia, Chile, Cote d'Ivoire, Greece, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, and South Korea.
FIFA requires all nations to submit preliminary rosters by May 11. Those rosters could include up to 30 players; however, by June 1 all teams must finalize 23-men rosters with the governing body. Injured players can be replaced within 24 hours of the team’s first World Cup match, and the replacements need not have been on the provisional roster.
A number of nations finalized their teams over the weekend, including Mexico, Nigeria and Paraguay.
