Naming Push for “Stephen Strasburg, Virginia” Gets Shot Down

↵↵Last Friday we had a post about Strasburg, Virginia possibly adding a “Stephen” to the front of its name. Not happening, according to NVDaily:↵
↵↵⇥ The resolution, which had to be redrafted four times, bounced back and forth between renaming the town “Stephen Strasburg” to honor last year’s top pick in the Major League Baseball draft, to just having a single day in his honor.↵⇥↵⇥[...]↵⇥
↵⇥↵⇥ The resolution also originally read to give the pitcher a Pride of Strasburg award and invited him to come to town to accept it, at which point he would throw out the first pitch of a Strasburg Express baseball game -- once the Valley League team takes the field next year -- and in turn the town would be renamed Stephen Strasburg, Va., for the day.↵⇥
↵↵This was the council’s eventual decision: “In the event that Strasburg comes to town to receive his award, Stephen Strasburg Day will be celebrated.” While he might not ever bother to collect this honor, that’s not a bad little card to have in your pocket. “Oh, it’s a random Wednesday in December, time to roll through Strasburg, Virginia and be celebrated!” (OK, he probably has to give them some sort of heads up, but it’s fun to imagine.)↵↵In other Strasburg-related news, his next start will be carried Sunday on TBS. Those of you who (like me) faced an MLB Network blackout for his debut will finally get a chance to see him.↵
