Chicago’s Managers Appear to Have the Collective Stability of Chernobyl

The moody or volatile nature of both Chicago baseball managers -- Lou Piniella with the Cubs and Ozzie Guillen with the White Sox -- is nothing new. But it’s rare that they both manage to have a good synchronized freakout. It’s kind of like getting lightning in the middle of a blizzard. You just sit back and admire it. Thanks to the fact that the two clubs are meeting this weekend, we’ve been blessed with such an event.↵↵First, we get Piniella’s meltdown before today’s game, brought on by second-guessing about rookie Tyler Colvin and his lack of playing time.↵

↵
↵Please let these two run into each other with the cameras rolling at some point this weekend.↵↵Not to be outdone, it sounds like Guillen took a page from the Chicago Bulls and got into some sort of altercation with his GM, Kenny Williams.↵

↵↵⇥After the White Sox’ 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers, the Sun-Times was told by a team source that general manager Ken Williams and manager Ozzie Guillen “almost came to blows in a heated shouting match” on Tuesday evening because of the draft fallout of Guillen’s youngest son, Ozney.↵⇥↵⇥[...]↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Guillen watched Ozney slip to the 22nd round in the draft before the Sox selected him. Guillen then commented, “I give my kid 50 grand just to go to school [at the University of South Florida rather than sign with the Sox]. I got 50 grand in my pocket to send my kid to go to Niketown or buy something.”↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥According to the source, that comment led to Williams questioning Guillen to his face, and the situation got heated.↵⇥

↵↵↵Keep in mind that both of these stories came to light before we even got the first pitch of this weekend’s Chicago series. With this much instability in one stadium, it should be a fun weekend at Wrigley. ↵
