Didier Drogba, the Ivory Coast captain, has been named to the bench for Tuesday’s match versus Portugal, after receiving clearance to participate in the Group G opener for both sides.
Portugal Vs. Cote d’Ivoire: Didier Drogba Named To Bench For Portugal Match After Cast Approved
Drogba, who suffered a broken arm a little more than a week ago, will be allowed to wear a protective cast on his right arm, only after it gained approval from both FIFA and Portugal.
FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot said: “The Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda has authorised Didier Drogba to play with his protection. The Portuguese delegation also inspected his (arm) support at the pre-match coordination meeting.”
While there’s so no guarantee we’ll see Drogba against Portugal, the mere fact that we’re even discussing the possibility of him playing, just 10 days after surgery on his broken arm, is remarkable enough.
