After Six Long Months, Tim Tebow Finally Gets A Statue

The last game Tim Tebow played for the University of Florida was on Jan. 1, 2010. Today, six months and 15 days later, the long state of uncertainty about a statue for the great Gator quarterback has finally been put to an end. According to the Gainesville Sun, the University announced Wednesday that it would be erecting “three larger than life statues” for the school’s Heisman winning players: Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow.
↵Given that it is a bit odd for teams to have statues of people that still coach against them regularly in conference, and no one outside of the Mrs. Wuerffel have heard much from Danny this past decade, it is safe to say that Tebow was the driving force behind this decision. But honestly, any reason to build a half-million dollar (donor funded, naturally), 10-foot tall bronze Steve Spurrier is good enough for me.

↵Meanwhile, the University of Illinois just completed a statue last year of its famous football son, Red Grange, the same Red Grange who graduated 80 years ago, and died 20 years ago. Feel free to add any SEC speed jokes here.
