Andy Murray has decided to skip the United Kingdom’s upcoming Davis Cup matchup against Turkey on July 9-11.
Andy Murray To Skip Davis Cup Tie Against Turkey
Murray, who also missed the tie against Lithuania in March, said he would continue to make decisions on a match-to-match basis and insisted that it was time Great Britain got used to winning without him.
“I’ve given a lot of reasons for not playing and I do think that it’s time for us to start winning ties, having young players get used to winning,” the 23-year-old said.
In Davis Cup lingo a “tie” means a knockout round. Though Murray has now missed his country’s last two matches he must play in at least one tie in the next two years to be eligible to play in the 2012 London Olympics. Given that little tid-bit, it is unlikely that the Scottish-born Murray will stay away from the Davis Cup for too long.
