Vuvuzela Invades Yankee Stadium, Promptly Gets Fan Booted

↵↵In an otherwise dull World Cup, the clear winner is the vuvuzela. With so many low-scoring games, fans casually tuning in have been left to discuss the cicada-like buzzing noise coming from the horns. With all that attention, I suppose it was only a matter of time until they infiltrated American sports venues.↵

↵↵The New York Post has the story (and rather amusing photo) of Yankees fan Anthony Zachariadis and his vuvuzelas from Tuesday.↵

↵↵⇥“I hid them in my shorts to get into the stadium, and when I pulled out the horns, the whole place went nuts,” he said. ↵⇥↵⇥“Phillies fans would walk by and we would blow it in their ear,” he said. “They had a laugh -- they knew we were playing with them.” ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥“I blew on it only five or six times -- for big plays,” Zachariadis said. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Zachariadis finally agreed to leave the game in return for not having his horns seized. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥“I have been tossed from that place hundreds of times. Many times I even deserved it,” he said. “But this was ridiculous.”↵⇥

↵↵That’s a bold choice. Zachariadis picked vuvuzelas -- that reportedly cost him just $6 -- over staying at the Yankees game. As for whether this was an overreaction by the Yankees ... let’s go to the rule book:↵↵⇥The following items are prohibited:
↵⇥Any soft-sided bag larger than 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches, including diaper bags, backpacks and purses
↵⇥Briefcases, coolers and hard-sided bags and containers

↵⇥Firearms or knives
↵⇥Beach balls, blow horns and all other distracting noisemakers
↵⇥Any other devices that may interfere with and/or distract any sports participant, other patron, audio or audio/visual telecast or recording of the game or any technology-related service provided in Yankee Stadium↵↵↵So it’s pretty clear these things aren’t allowed to begin with, but is one of those being blown in a stadium any worse than tens of thousands of people clapping those insufferable thundersticks?↵
