Texas A&M AD Bill Byrne Is Sorry For Angry Voicemail Left for Fan

LSUFreek sent me audio of an angry voicemail on Tuesday, which you can hear below, that was allegedly the voice of Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne. (NSFW-ish comments from Byrne follow.)↵

↵ We were hesitant to post it without any verification as to whether the call actually came from Byrne. (You don’t want to accuse a guy of going all Phil Savage if he didn’t really do it.) Late on Wednesday, Byrne addressed the call in a blog post on AggieAthletics.com after receiving multiple media requests to comment. He was addressing various arguments being made about conference realignment, one of which was:↵↵⇥ Statement Three: You are DeLoss Dodds’ lapdog and things worse, actually much worse.↵⇥↵⇥After reading over 200 similar e-mails the other night, I finally had one set me off and I called the writer. I’m a very competitive person and like many of you, I was raised not to back down when challenged. I’ve also got a bit of an Irish temper which came across in my voicemail. I regretted what I said as soon as I hung up. I should have been above that, and I made a mistake. For those of you who were offended by my response, I apologize, and I assure you that it will not happen again.↵⇥

↵↵↵What set off Byrne’s voicemail? A rather colorful e-mail we can’t post here that made reference to Byrne having his tongue in an unsavory place relating to Texas AD DeLoss Dodds. (Gag.) ↵
