Uncertainty Looms Over Destinations For Which Roy Oswalt Would Waive No-Trade Clause

Roy Oswalt has already said that he’d like to be traded to a winner, so, naturally, with his being a big name, rumors are starting to fly. Problem? Roy Oswalt has a full no-trade clause.

Ed Price hears the following:

• An official from another team said word going around is that Roy Oswalt would approve a trade only to the Phillies, Yankees or Cardinals.

However, just yesterday, Adam Kilgore reported this:

Oswalt, who has requested a trade from the 17-34 Astros, said he would be willing to play “anywhere” he can contend. He cited the Nationals’ offensive potential and the ensuing call-up of phenom Stephen Strasburg as reasons for his potential interest in playing in Washington.

So, while Oswalt would like to be traded, right now it’s unclear just where such a trade could send him. The Yankees, Phillies, and Cardinals are all good teams, so they make sense, but they’re not the only good teams in baseball, and narrowing it to those three limits Oswalt and the Astros’ options.

Oswalt’s salary, you’ll recall, is a big deal. Remember that not every team can afford to take on his price tag without at least a little help from Houston.
