Josh Beckett has been on the DL since May 19th with a lower back strain. Lest anyone think he’s going to come off tomorrow, though, think again:
Beckett’s Recovery Being Slowed Down By 1-2 Weeks
Francona said he and John Farrell sat down with Josh Beckett, who is on the DL with a lower back strain, and decided, “We’re going to slow him down a little bit. I don’t know if I have a firm timetable, but about 10 days.”
Beckett, it seems, has had inconsistent mechanics in his bullpen sessions, so the Red Sox are going to take it easier on him and let him heal up completely before they move him along. If they allowed him to keep throwing with inconsistent mechanics now, not only would it risk further injury, but it would also reinforce the wrong delivery, which can be difficult to undo.
Fans of Beckett should expect a return in later June. Tim Wakefield, who’s been filling in for Beckett, has had an up and down year, and got absolutely pasted by the Royals last week.
