Roto Roundup: Bullpen Blowups Highlight Saturday’s Action

Rockies closer Manny Corpas picked the wrong time to give up 3 runs on Saturday. With Huston Street expected back to the Rockies this week, Corpas went out and gave up 3 runs in 0.2 innings, including a two run HR to Corey Hart.

Not so fast, Ray. Huston Street pitched what many thought was his last rehab outing on Saturday night at AAA Colorado Springs. He didn't convince me he is ready to come back, as he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. He also got thrown out of the game. Sunday should bring an update on his call-up status.

While we are talking closers, Phillies closer Brad Lidge blew his first, of many?, save of the year on Saturday as he served up the game tying two run HR to Joe Mauer. Former closer Jose Contreras gave up 3 runs in 0.1 innings pitched. I would watch Lidge closely if I owned him on my fantasy team.

Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin couldn't convert a save opportunity as he gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk and was pulled before getting an out. Jason Motte came in and earned his second save of the season. Motte is worth watching should Franklin blow a few saves as manager Tony LaRussa has never been afraid to make a quick change in the back of the Cardinals bullpen. Motte has a 35-10 K/BB rato with a 2.17 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

Who can figure out White Sox starter Jake Peavy. He complains about shoulder soreness then goes out and throws a complete game shutout vs the Nationals. Peavy gave up just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7.

Angels starter Jered Weaver dominated the Cubs on Saturday, as he gave up just 2 hits in 7 shutout innings and struck out 11. Weaver is now 7-3 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, along with a 107-23 K/BB ratio. That's quite dominant.

Is Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen a Top 10 pick in 2011? McCutchen went 2-2 with 3 walks, 4 runs scored and his 18th SB of the season on Saturday. He is now hitting .319-.394-.484 with 7 HRs and 21 RBIs. He has a solid 42-31 K/BB ratio, and is on pace to score 114 runs and steal 39 bases.

Phillies second baseman must have been real pissed at first base coach Davey Lopes and he went 3-5 with 3 RBIs on Saturday after going 3-5 with a HR on Friday night. He is now hitting .267-.380-.479 for the season.
