BMW Open, Second Round: Bradley Dredge Leads; Ernie Els And Sergio Garcia Miss Cut

At the half way point of the BMW International Open in Munich, Bradley Dredge finished the second round at 13-under par and in sole possession of first place. Dredge followed up his first round 8-under 64 with a 5-under 67 today that included two eagles. Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal sits one stroke behind Dredge after shooting back to back 6-under 66s. Two are tied at third at 10-under.

Perhaps more significant than those still in the tournament are those that missed the cut today. Both Sergio Garcia and Ernie Els failed to reach the weekend rounds in Munich. Els shot par today to finish the tournament at 2-under - missing the cut by one stroke. Garcia finished at 9-over for the tournament - just three strokes better than the last place finishers.

From the UK Telegraph:

Tiredness appeared to catch up with Els, who was third in the US Open, when he dropped three late shots and narrowly failed to make the eagle he needed on the par-five last.

García was also at Pebble Beach, but there was far more behind his woeful performance than jetlag. Wearing the colours of the Spanish football team did nothing for the 30 year-old as his alarming slump continued.

For the first time as a professional García has missed back-to-back cuts on European soil and his nine-over-par total after rounds of 77 and 76 was his worst on this side of the Atlantic since the 1999 Open at Carnoustie.
