A Plea For America’s Casual World Cup Fans To Stick Around

The American presence in the World Cup has come to an end, and we’re left to do as we please, whether this means following the rest of the drama in South Africa or shifting back to doing whatever we were doing before the group stage. (I think I was frying an egg; I’ll check on that after the final.)

↵There’s still plenty of World Cup drama ahead of us. You really should keep watching. But if you’d rather lament for a bit and then opt out, that’s your prerogative. As the vuvuzelas obscure the cheers, boos, and silence in the game’s aftermath, just as the rain obscured the tears of one Ernest P. Worrell, best wishes. Go forth and, I don’t know, mentor a gaggle of troubled youths at summer camp.
