Wimbledon: No. 9 Li Na Defeats No. 7 Agnieszka Radwanska

No. 9 Li Na has defeated No. 7 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second time in her career.

The win avenges Radwanska’s victory over Li in the third round of Wimbledon last year.

Li previously made the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2006, losing to Kim Clijsters. This is her first time making the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the second time in a calendar year, having previously made the semifinals of the Australian Open back in January.

It’s still a good showing on the grass for Radwanska, who had made the quarterfinals each of the previous two years and is generally a model of consistency (but not excellence). Li will prove to be a much tougher challenge to the winner of Serena Williams-Maria Sharapova than Radwanska would have, certainly.
