Devoted Florida Prospect Isn’t A Florida Prospect At All (Yet)

The commitment of Rahim Cassell, a Rivals three-star linebacker, to Florida isn’t particularly newsworthy, unless you’re plugged in enough in Gainesville to wonder what the Gators are doing stooping below four- and five-star prospects. Oh, and except for the part that Florida hasn’t exactly offered him:

↵This is a guy who has yet to visit Gainesville or even meet Urban Meyer. So, it’s easy to see why the Gators are not ready to accept a pledge from the kid yet. [...] Cassell may eventually become a UF commitment, but it hasn’t happened yet, even if in his mind he is committed to the Gators.↵Is being committed in one’s heart to a football team that might not return affections more like a common-law marriage, or like being a Twilight groupie? In related news, I’d like to announce my intent to sign with the Miami Hurricanes, and will take that scholarship check just any time now.
