Introducing SB Nation Los Angeles, Where The Lakers Rule The City

It’s the end of June, which means SB Nation’s month-long rollout of regional sites is nearing its completion. Today, we took another step forward with SB Nation Los Angeles, which will primarily cover the Lakers, Dodgers, Clippers, Angels, Kings, Mighty Ducks, UCLA and USC.

Your editor is Eric Stephen, who also runs our Dodgers site True Blue LA. This obviously means that the Dodgers will dominate the list of the top five most popular athletes in Los Angeles, right? Wrong. As it turns out, three Lakers, and only one Dodger, made the cut.

Kobe Bryant, unsurprisingly, leads the pack, as well he should. Considering the stereotypical Los Angles sports fan is an obnoxious Kobe homer that defends his every move (just kidding!), it wouldn’t make much sense for Kobe not to be number one on this list.

But two of Kobe’s teammates also make the cut, with Pau Gasol checking in at number three and Derek Fisher at number five. The only non-Lakers to make the list are LA Galaxy and Team USA star Landon Donovan and Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier. Yup, that’s Ethier, not Manny Ramirez.

So are there too many Lakers on this list? We ask, you decide!
