VIDEO: Birthday Boy Gary Bettman Goes Head-To-Head With CBC’s Ron MacLean

Besides the championship round hockey game that took place in Philadelphia last night, the other big story of the evening came from a broadcast booth in that very same building. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman joined Ron MacLean of Hockey Night In Canada for a contentious interview during the second intermission of Stanley Cup Final Game 3 between the Flyers and Blackhawks.

Bear witness:

Most of the hockey media was, of course, in the building last night, and not privy to televisions with CBC on them. I was sitting in the auxiliary press box surrounded by guys from Canada’s TSN and Rogers’ Sportsnet, who had changed the tiny television in our section to the CBC broadcast. In the midst of a still buzzing Wachovia Center crowd, though, it was tough to hear.

About 7 or 8 media members huddled around the television in an attempt to hear the interview. It was an entertaining sideshow between a Canadian media member who harshly questioned the most powerful man in hockey on the issues most pressing to the Canadian hockey fan, namely, WE WANT YOUR SOUTHERN HOCKEY TEAMS.

Nobody will agree who won this battle royale, but everybody will agree it was an entertaining little sideshow on Wednesday night.
