A day without World Cup soccer; sadness descends upon us

You knew this day was coming – but that cannot cap the heaviness of it all
Today is the saddest thing since
It is a day without soccer
Personally I am in a very dark place
I find myself so sad I have lost all ability to punctuate
Seriously, it’s the first day without soccer – world class, globally impacting and universally watched soccer, no less – since June 11. That was 19 glorious sunrises ago.
We have had the opportunity to watch 56 matches since Bafana Bafana came within a whisker of toppling Mexico in that opener inside Soccer City, popping the top on this tournament (and introducing the world en masse to vuvuzelas).
That’s damn near three games a day on average since then. Oh, joy!
Alas, all good and wonderful things come to an end. Today is the first of two dreadful days. Prepare for the shakes. You may notice your favorite foods burdened by a strange, metallic and bitter aftertaste. You may kick the dog for no reason whatsoever. So please, for the love of all that’s good, stay away from the dog today. Ruff!
The most harshly afflicted among you may find yourself huddled into the corner, weeping inconsolably. And if you see someone else in this pitiful pose, hold them and tell them it will be all right.
I’ll do my part to fill the gap with a couple of posts later today. In the meantime, fill this gulf of wretched suffering by checking out this really cool rating of the best players in
