Meet Austin Rivers: Doc’s Entertainment in Potential Retirement

↵Rivers, once a 2011 Florida commitment who re-opened his recruiting (sorry, Hutchins), is playing for Team USA at the FIBA U18 Championship in San Antonio. On Tuesday night, Rivers dropped 35 points and hit nine 3-pointers in an easy 122-89 win over Team Canada. The 35 points? A Team USA U18 record, previously held by Calbert Cheaney at 34 points. The nine 3-pointers? Also a team record, blowing away the previous best of five. And this wasn’t a scattered 9-for-23 kind of night. He actually started the game 9-for-9 from beyond the arc. ↵Scout.com rates Rivers the no. 1 shooting guard in his class. Rivals rates him as the No. 6 player in his class. He’s reportedly been offered by Duke, Florida and North Carolina.↵↵Before moving past this semifinal, it should be noted Team Canada has at least one player you’ll hear plenty about in the near future. Myck Kabongo, who’s headed to Texas, dropped 32 points and nine assists in the loss. Scout’s Dave Telep called him the best point guard prospect headed to Austin since T.J. Ford, which is no small bit of praise.↵

↵↵Team USA goes for the old against Brazil tonight at 8 p.m. ET. While the game isn’t being televised, you can watch it online at FIBAAmericas.com. Aside from Rivers, this team has tons of talent you’ll want to familiarize yourself with. Future Blue Devil Kyrie Irving is on the roster. Missouri’s top recruit, Tony Mitchell is with the team.
