(Alistair) Overeem (33-11 MMA, 3-0 DREAM) has verbally agreed to face former UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez (42-11 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) at DREAM.15.
Bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly, and a formal announcement for the heavyweight contest should come soon after.
Alistair Overeem And Ricco Rodriguez To Meet At DREAM.15
Rodriguez has been on a real roll as of late winning 7 straight fights. Ricco had notorious trouble with drugs and had blown up a lot in weight during the last few years. However, when he showed up to ADCC this past October having changed from this:
To this:
it appeared that the man who once held the UFC heavyweight championship may be back. And in four of his five fights since that time he has gotten stoppage victories.
I know that some people are going to be upset with the level of competition for Strikeforce champ, Overeem, once again but Rodriguez is a nice challenge. Ricco is good enough on the ground to cause Overeem some trouble and he is tough and versatile on the feet. Obviously Overeem should be a fairly heavy favorite but this isn’t exactly the same as his bouts against Gary Goodridge, Tony Sylvester, James Thompson or Kazuyuki Fujita.
Dream.15 takes place on July 10.
