At this point, just about everyone’s wounds should be healed from the botched perfect game call made by Jim Joyce on Wednesday. He made a mistake, but he owned up to it. Armando Galarraga was able to accept the apology and Joyce seems to be genuinely remoseful. If the parties involved can get over it, you should be able to do the same at home on your couch. And yet, we have the story of mistaken identity and an entirely different Jim Joyce who is having his life temporarily interrupted by a bunch of mouth-breathing idiots.↵
Tigers Fans Target the Wrong Jim Joyce: A Signal For Fans Needing Therapy

↵↵The man on the left is Jim Joyce, MLB umpire. The man on the right? You’ve never seen him before, but there’s a chance you might’ve called and harassed or threatened him if you’re a particularly unhinged Tigers fan. His name is also Jim Joyce. The Jim Joyce on the right is from Toledo and his number was listed in the phone book. (He has since had to have that number disconnected.) More details via WTOL:↵
↵↵⇥“I would guess 40 [phone calls] would be conservative,” Joyce said. “They were coming in...four or five at a time it seemed like, with call waiting and everything.”↵⇥↵⇥[...]↵⇥
↵⇥↵⇥“Everybody was pretty irate quite honestly,” Joyce said, describing the calls. “A lot of them are vulgar things. Some of them were funny about me needing new glasses but then they’d follow it up with vulgarity as well.”↵⇥
↵↵↵Oh, the irony of it all: Jim Joyce, the one who isn’t an MLB umpire, is actually a Tigers fan. It’s a shame too, because he seems like an affable guy unlike some of his completely psychotic brethren. Time to move on folks.↵
