So in case you haven’t heard, SB Nation launched six regional sites yesterday. We already talked about Washington D.C. and Boston, and we’ll eventually talk to you about Detroit, Arizona and Chicago as well. But let’s be real: when we think of America, the first city we think about is New York. Or, as Jay-Z and Rihanna put it, “the place where dreams are made of.” (Sorry, I promise there will be no more reference to crappy songs in this post).
Introducing SB Nation New York, Where Derek Jeter Is King
So it is my pleasure to introduce SB Nation New York, headed by Ed Valentine, the lead blogger of our Giants blog Big Blue View and our Yankees blog Pinstripe Alley. Basically, he’s everywhere. The site also has a group of fabulous contributors that you may know if you frequent the New York scene.
Like all of our other regional sites, SB Nation New York also had a list of the top five most popular athletes in their city. Since number one was so obvious (Derek Jeter, hello!), they figured that was worth mentioning right at the start. After that, it got interesting, with Eli Manning taking the number two spot, Mariano Rivera filling in at number three, Mark Sanchez (hmm...) at number four and Alex Rodriguez, of all people, at number five. Personally, I didn’t realize New York fans had gotten behind A-Rod yet, but I guess that’s what happens when you win a World Series. Funny how that works.
I will give them credit, though, for not including LeBron James on that list. Joe Johnson, the guy who will actually come to the Knicks, is so much more popular.
