Eminem Namedrops Roethlisberger, Vick on New Album “Recovery”
↵
↵
↵↵Not that we’d ever advocate illegally downloading music, but the new Eminem album leaked over the course of the last 24 hours or so. And, you know, it was right there on YouTube, so what was I going to do? Not listen to it? Truth be told, but that was exactly what I was going to do. I was pretty content to just wait until Andy Hutchins mentioned that Eminem had dropped another Ben Roethlisberger reference. Knowing we already had one sports reference, and that Em is something of a sports fan, I jumped into the album searching for other references.↵
↵↵The album isn’t full of punchlines about athletes. In fact, upon my first listen of the whole thing, I only came up with a few. There’s a track called “Cinderella Man,” which obviously has the same name of the Russell Crowe boxing flick.↵
↵↵But I only caught two athletes mentioned by name: Roethlisberger and Michael Vick. (If I missed any others, give me a shout in the comments.) Both are at the beginning of tracks. ↵
↵↵The first song, “Cold Wind Blows,” has the Vick reference: “I’m nuts, Michael Vick in this b---- dog. Fall back you mutts.” Track No. 14, “Almost Famous” references Roethlisberger in a particularly graphic manner that one-ups his other reference to the Steelers QB. I’m not able to actually put the entire lyric in this post, but he ends it with “They call me Slim Roethlisberger.” (Let’s just say that Eminem’s line leads you to believe he isn’t a big believer in the QB’s innocence.)↵
↵↵I’d link to the videos on YouTube where I listened to the tracks, but in the time it took me to listen to the whole album, they’d already been taken down. Eminem’s “Recovery” hits stores for your legal purchase on June 22. ↵
