Fantasy Baseball: Monday’s Roto Roundup
Monday's MLB action was highlighted by the MLB Draft where my team, the Dodgers, drafted a pitcher, Zack Lee, who more than likely will not sign with LA. He has signed to play football and baseball at LSU where they have two powerhouse programs in both sports. Thanks Frank McCourt.
Here are the rest of my thoughts after reviewing Monday's boxscores:
Well, we almost had another no-hitter on Monday night, but Padres slugger Adrian Gonzalez had something to say about Cole Hamels attempt at history. He got the first hit off of Hamels with one out in the 7th inning. All told Hamels pitched well, going 8 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6. The Phils just can't score runs these days.
Adrian Gonzalez ended up going 2-3, with 2 HRs on Monday night . He is hitting .288-.395-.519 with 13 HRs and 38 RBIs for the season. Jed Hoyer will get a boatload for him once he decides to deal him, which isn't anytime in the near future.
Cubs starter Carlos Silva held the Pirates to one run in 7 innings on Monday afternoon. He allowed 4 hits, one walk and struck out 5 in winning his 8th game of the season. His ERA is down under 3.00 and his WHIP sits at 1.06. Is he the Cubs ace? I am sure he went undrafted in many leagues.
Sure it was against the Indians, but Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka held them scoreless for 8 innings, giving up only 4 hits and walking just two. Since his 8 walks performance on May 27th, Dice-K has walked just two in 14+ innings.
Mariners starter Cliff Lee won his 4th game of the season on Monday night, but the win total does not tell you how well Lee has pitched this season. Lee threw a complete game 7-hitter, holding the Rangers to two runs and striking out 7. In 61+ innings this season he has a 57-4 K/BB ratio and a 0.92 WHIP. Rockies first baseman Todd Helton was moved down to the 6th spot in the lineup on Monday night, and he responded with an 0-3 performance with an RBI. How the mighty have fallen.
Rockies starter Jason Hammel shut out the Astros for 7+ innings on Monday, giving up 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. He has lowered his ERA from just above 9.0 to 5.23 since coming off the DL. In his 5 starts since coming off the DL, he has a 29-6 K/BB ratio.
