While we all mourn the loss of a basketball legend in the passing of John Wooden, the silver lining -- if there is such a thing -- is that we get a lot of great stories about the legendary UCLA coach. My favorite of the day comes courtesy of KJR (audio link) and an interview with Washington coach Lorenzo Romar.↵
John Wooden Was a Man of His Word

That’s fine. I’ll get it later.’ ↵⇥↵⇥Later that summer, he spoke at my basketball camp, and I went to pick him up. And when he comes out to the car, he has 85 cents. He had it in his hand. He said, ‘Here’s that money,’ and that was four months later.”↵⇥
↵↵It’s a small story, but when I read stuff like this, it emphasizes that those who spent time with the coach were truly richer for that experience, even if it was only 85 cents.
