Penguins Sign Zybnek Michalek For 5 Years

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost out on Dan Hamhuis and Sergei Gonchar (although we guess Hamhuis is technically still a possibility), but they’re attempting to shore up the newly-found holes in their defense. Ray Shero has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Zybnek Michalek.

According to Darren Dreger, it’s a five year deal worth $20 million. Michalek made a name for himself in Phoenix this past season, and it’s widely regarded that the Pens are getting a very solid up-and-coming defenseman in this deal.

Other reports also say that Shero and the Pens are still in the running for defenseman Paul Martin. Acquiring these two players would more than make up for the holes created on their blueline in the last few days.

Check out Pensburgh and SB Nation Pittsburgh for more reaction.
