Could CP3, Carmelo, and Amar’e Be the Knicks’ Big Three?

(The post was written by The Baseline’s Eric Freeman.)

Like all professional sports leagues, the NBA is full of copycats. Win a championship with a particular style, and it’s likely to become the new hot fad.
With the new superstar trio in Miami, a group of three excellent players is sure to become the hottest trend around the league. For one thing, it’s very easy to accomplish, since All-Stars and gold-medal winners grow on trees. Plus, clearing that much cap space is a piece of cake, especially in a league where every team has three or four seemingly unmovable contracts.
I jest, in part, but there are indications that other teams will try to match the Heat’s haul in the future. Like the Knicks, for instance. Just check out these comments from Chris Paul at the wedding of his Team USA teammate Carmelo Anthony this weekend. From the fine folks at the New York Post:

⇥According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar’e Stoudemire, Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, “We’ll form our own Big 3,” Paul allegedly said.⇥
⇥
⇥Attendee Spike Lee nearly passed out at the suggestion.⇥
⇥
⇥A source told The Post on Dec. 15, when trades are permitted for free-agent signees and draft picks, the Knicks will try to put together a package for either free-agent-to-be Tony Parker or Paul.Something that tells me that this wedding had an open bar, and that CP3 had a few too many scotches (classy but strong, just like his game).
