Mikhail Prokhorov Remains Confident, Plans to Move MSG to Moscow

↵
↵This post is by Eric Freeman↵↵The Nets have not had a very nice summer. They drafted a project big man in Derrick Favors, ended up with a bunch of role players in free agency, and ultimately don’t seem very far along in fulfilling owner Mikhail Prokhorov’s stated promise of winning a championship within five years.↵
↵
↵Thankfully, he’s not being any less brash in his statements. At a press conference for various reporters in New York, Prokhorov said he has interesting plans for Madison Square Garden. From The New York Times:↵

↵↵⇥But there will immediately be more of a rivalry with the Knicks, which started in earnest when a large billboard of Prokhorov with the rap mogul Jay-Z, a Nets minority owner, was placed within view of Madison Square Garden.↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥“I think Jay and I look really great, and I am looking into the possibility of buying this building and having it shipped back to Moscow,” Prokhorov said with a smile on Tuesday. “I want to put it across the Red Square near the Kremlin.” [...]↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥“Be patient,” Prokhorov said when asked what message he would deliver to fans. “Support our team. We will win for sure. And trust me, next season will be completely different: aggressive, young. Now we have really good ambition to beat Miami Heat.”↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥With the way Miami stockpiled superstars, it may be an unobtainable goal in 2010-11. The Nets’ desire, Prokhorov said, is to reach the playoffs this season and to win a championship within the next five years. Prokhorov jokingly said he would be held responsible if the team did not reach the goal, and his punishment would be to marry.↵↵Read more of this post on The Baseline.↵
