Is Anthony Davis The No. 1 Player in the Class of 2011?

↵These are the kinds of plays Davis makes that have some people wondering whether he’s the top player in the nation. Davis is currently ranked No. 8 in the 2011 class by Rivals. Scout lists him as the No. 3 power forward in the class. Kentucky, Ohio State and Syracuse lead for his services. The players most commonly placed ahead of him are Quincy Miller (undecided), Austin Rivers (undecided) and Michael Gilchrist (UK)↵↵The buzz about moving Davis up to the No. 1 spot is getting loud. Our own Mike DeCourcy has decreed it so on Twitter. I also talked with DeCourcy -- who has seen his fair share of Davis’ game in the last month -- by phone this afternoon, and he raved about Davis being well on his way to being an elite defender while also having good offensive skills. Maybe not the shooting range of some other recruits to pile up ridiculous point totals, but the lanky 6-foot-10 forward has ceiling for days, so that makes up for any current scoring deficiencies.↵

↵If what Davis said in June to ESPN holds true, he'll make his decision sometime soon -- possibly in late July or early August.
