Dwyane Wade: Consecutive Heat Losses ‘Like World Trade Coming Down Again’ (UPDATED)

(UPDATE: FanHouse has since recalled Wade’s remarks on account of a whopper of a transcription error. The corrected quote is at the end of the article.)

Here’s what Dwyane Wade told FanHouse at a charity basketball event in Miami today, with emphasis ours:

“We’re going to be wearing a bullseye,” Wade said. “But that’s what you play for. If we lose a couple in a row this season, it will be like the World Trade (Center) is coming down again. When the schedule comes out, people will be looking for the Lakers and Heat, to see when they play us. I feel like I’m a new player in Miami. That’s how excited I am.”

Pointing out the particulars of Wade’s failure of both logic and morality would only be declaring the obvious. We just hope that the next time Miami loses two straight games, Wade is reminded of his statement. Reminded constantly, in graphic detail, and past the limit of his patience. Like this:

Wade: “I’m not taking any more 9/11 questions, guys.”
Reporters: “Oh yes you are.”

The intent, of course, is to make the statement genuinely irritate and infuriate Wade. Forcing him to make some pre-fabricated apology and dropping the subject just wouldn’t seem to do the trick.

(UPDATE: FanHouse now includes the following quote:

“We’re going to be wearing a bullseye. But that’s what you play for,” Wade said. “We enjoy the bullseye. Plus, there’s going to be times when we lose 2-3 games in a row, and it seems like the world has crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade is coming down again, but it’s not going to be nothing but a couple basketball games.

While Wade’s remarks are at least more sensible than the original version, he’s still the guy invoking 9/11 in a comparison to basketball games, and that’s still insensitive past any point of common sense.)
