Fly Away: Simon Gagne Traded To Tampa Bay For Matt Walker, 2011 Fourth-Round Pick

Simon Gagne is no longer a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, receiving a trade to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Matt Walker and a fourth-round draft selection in 2011. The left winger, who was drafted and obtained by the organization since 1998, reportedly waived his no-trade clause earlier this month.

Gagne has one year left on his current contract and will earn $5.25 million next season. Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman had plenty of motive in chasing the potent scorer for the team’s restructuring. The 30-year-old played 664 games with the Flyers compiling 259 goals and 265 assists.
