Serena Williams To Have Foot Surgery After Restaurant Mishap

Serena Williams, who withdrew from the remainder of the World Team Tennis season last week with a cut on her foot, will now need to undergo foot surgery. Williams cut her foot accidentally on a piece of broken glass in a restaurant. The defending Wimbledon champ will also miss three tournaments - Istanbul, Cincinnati, and Montreal - leading up to the U.S. Open, which she plans to be ready for.

From the Washington Examiner:

Said Williams:

"I'm so upset I won't be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery. Thank you for all of your support. I can't wait to get back on the courts."

The U.S. Open begins on August 30 in Flushing, NY.
