NBA Free Agency: Mavericks Reportedly Offer Dirk Nowitzki A New Contract

It took a while for Dirk Nowitzki’s agent and Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson to touch base for a meeting, raising some eyebrows about whether Dirk would shock everyone and leave the team. But eventually, the two sides did meet, and according to Jeff Caplan of ESPN Dallas, it appears a contract offer came out of that meeting.

Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson presented an offer to Dirk Nowitzki’s advisor, Holger Geschwindner, as their long-standing talks resumed Friday morning and could wrap up with Saturday’s scheduled meeting.

The Mavericks were expected to present Nowitzki with the maximum offer. The most he can re-sign for is four years and $96 million.

Nowitzki himself was not at the meeting, but the Mavericks are hopeful he’ll accept quickly so they can turn their attention to finding Dirk’s running mate in a sign and trade.
