Jose Canseco, Unfettered by Credibility or Shame, Will Fight 60-Year-Old Man

↵↵Jose Canseco’s fight history is, well, less than impressive. The loss to 7-2 Korean Hong Man Choi is unforgettable. And then there was that Wing Bowl nonsense. We’re not even sure he was winning the online fight on Twitter. But it appears he’s picked a fight he can win: 60-year-old Gary Hogan.↵

↵↵Hogan, the Arkansas-Little Rock assistant athletic director, will box Jose Canseco on July 9. Canseco turned 46 today (Happy Birthday, Jose!), so while he isn’t young, he is 14 years younger than Hogan. The whole thing is part of a minor league baseball promotion for the Arkansas Travelers, which is a Class AA affiliate of the Angels. The bout will consist of four two-minute rounds. More on the fight from Travelers GM Pete Laven:↵

↵↵⇥ “After I saw Canseco fight [NFL player-turned-sportscaster] Vai Sikahema, I thought of Gary because he still spars at the local gym and has a high-energy manic personality. I got in touch with Canseco and came to terms with him, all the while making sure that Gary was working out and ready to do it. Now it’s almost upon us, and it really should be a great event.”↵↵↵Beyond still sparring, Hogan has some brief experience in the ring. He fought Mike Quarry at one point in front of 7,500 people and eventually left the fight game when he suffered a ribcage injury against John Tate, a former heavyweight champion. Now, keep this in mind: both men Hogan fought have both passed on. Might that be a sign that Hogan is a wee bit old to be taking this beating? Either way, I eagerly await the YouTube clips of this bout for the ages. Who needs Pacquiao-Mayweather?↵
