Chelsea Sign Yossi Benayoun From Liverpool

Chelsea and Liverpool have agreed on a transfer price for Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun, believed to be in the price range of five million pounds (about $7.6 million).

Chelsea have already confirmed the move on their official website:

The 30-year-old will link up with his new team-mates at Cobham for the beginning of pre-season on Monday (July 5).

‘I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful,’ said the Israeli international, who has signed a three-year contract.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: ‘We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season.’

Chelsea will be Benayoun’s third Premier League team after suiting up for Liverpool for the past three seasons and West Ham the two before that. Benayoun has also had lengthy stints in Israel and Spain having been capped over 100 times for both Maccabi Haifa and Racing Santander.

Benayoun, who captains the Israeli National Team, becomes the first of what is sure to be an exodus of high profile players from Liverpool after they failed to qualify for the Champions League - finishing the EPL season in seventh position.
