Jamie Moyer Will Not Require Surgery On Ailing Elbow
Good news from Matt Gelb, all things considered:
Even though Jamie Moyer’s season is over, that’s not new news. What is new news is that, at least based on this one evaluation, he won’t need surgery on his elbow, which should hopefully improve his odds of returning for another go next season. There’s no telling which way Moyer is leaning right now, but not having to go under the knife makes things an awful lot sunnier.

Very bad news out of Philadelphia:
J.A. Happ, for reference, hasn’t pitched in the Majors since mid-April, although he’s started seven games in the minors. Moyer, then, will miss significant time, which puts the Phillies in a bind. They’re in dire need of a starting pitcher and are reportedly working hard to get one, but after losing to the Cardinals on Tuesday night, they dropped to seven back in the East and 3.5 back of the Wild Card.
