QB Kyle Parker Will Return To Clemson This Season Instead Of Joining Colorado Rockies

Despite being selected in the first round of this year's MLB Draft, sophomore quarterback Kyle Parker has decided to return to Clemson instead of pursuing a professional baseball career at this time.

The Rockies picked Parker 26th overall, but the two sides were unable to agree on a contract by July 20th, the date the Parker family set as the deadline for a deal to happen. They are continuing to work on getting a deal in place before the official August 16th deadline. Parker could sign a contract, but still play football this season for Clemson.

So, in an unexpected turn of events, Clemson announced on Wednesday that Parker is returning to school. Head coach Dabo Swinney sent an email to the media:

“Someone once said there is something in those hills at Clemson,” Swinney said. “At the end of the day, whatever is in those hills was too much for Kyle Parker to turn down.”

“We are very excited to have Kyle back,” Swinney’s statement continued. “Whenever you have a returning starter at quarterback who led you to the Atlantic Division title, that is a real plus for your team. He is dynamic athlete who brings a lot of positives to our offense.”

Parker is scheduled to meet with the media at 11 a.m. next Tuesday.
