MMA Fighting has word of this big time match-up:
Tito Ortiz Returns To Action Against Matt Hamill At UFC 121
The “Iceman” may want a third crack at him, and rumors of a Forrest Griffin trilogy have also made the rounds, but Tito Ortiz will have a fresh matchup when he next steps inside the octagon.
A source with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting that “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” will face Matt Hamill at UFC 121, and UFC President Dana White subsequently confirmed the matchup in a text message.
Hamill is coming off an impressive but somewhat tainted performance against Keith Jardine where he won the fight on the strength of a Jardine point deduction for an accidental eye poke. Still, he continues to show improvement in each outing and his stand-up may have finally advanced to the point that he can use his wrestling to neutralize Ortiz and beat him on the feet.
Tito returned to action against Forrest Griffin in a bout where he lost a unanimous decision but looked flat which could be chalked up to cage rust. He’s going to have to try out-wrestling Hamill to get the victory which may be a tall task. Ortiz was Hamill’s coach on The Ultimate Fighter and had pegged Matt as a future star.
The rumored card (via Bloody Elbow) for UFC 121 now looks like:
Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez
Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill
Diego Sanches vs. Paulo Thiago
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen
Chris Camozzi vs. Dongi Yang
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor
Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor
