MLB Trade Rumors: Rays Open To Dealing B.J. Upton

B.J. Upton is halfway through yet another campaign that, so far, is failing to live up to the expectations set by his breakout 2007 season. With the trade deadline fast approaching, FanHouse's Ed Price tweets that the Rays are reportedly interested in casting off the center fielder.

#Rays said to be shopping BJ Upton. With Manny out, #Dodgers could use a bat, and Tampa has some interest in RHP James McDonald.

Upton’s .319 on-base percentage leaves much to be desired, but he has managed to swipe 26 bases, and some of the more optimistic executives from around the league may wonder whether a change of scenery could benefit a 25-year-old who, at one point, was regarded as one of the most valuable prospects in baseball.

For more on Upton and the Rays, check in with SB Nation’s Rays blog, DRaysBay.
