Broncos, Elvis Dumervil Agree To Long-Term Contract Extension

The Broncos rewarded one of their own Thursday evening.

LB Elvis Dumervil and the club agreed to terms on a long-term contract, according to a team press release.

"I am pleased to announce the extension of Elvis Dumervil's contract with the Denver Broncos," G.M. Brian Xanders said. "He has established himself as one of the NFL's premier pass rushers, and he's an important part of the foundation we are building with this team. We are excited to have him as an integral part of the Broncos well into the future."

It’s unclear how long the deal runs or what the financial details are but as a restricted free agent Dumervil didn’t have a ton of leverage.

He became the first Bronco to lead the NFL in sacks last year recording 17. That number is particularly impressive since Dumervil transitioned from a defensive end to a linebacker in the Broncos 3-4 defense.

Head coach Josh McDaniels recognized Dumervil’s un-Marshall like behavior this offseason while negotiating the new deal.

“The way he has handled this lengthy negotiation this offseason is a great example of the type of player and person we want on our team,” McDaniels said. “We look forward to Elvis’ impact for many years to come.”
