Lionel Messi To Start Oasis Cover Band, Tour With Barcelona Teammate (UPDATE: Or Not?)

Update: If you were up late Saturday night, you might be concerned that this tour, and Messi’s reported obsession with Oasis, is nothing but a bunch of hokum, according to an Argentinian journalist. Dirty Tackle does the explaining, and pits that journalist against a British tabloid. Original post as follows, in case you care to believe the tab.

If you were Lionel Messi, you would be pretty short and really good at soccer. You would also be obsessed enough with Oasis to have mentioned getting the original band back together had Argentina won the World Cup, and to form an Oasis tribute band after the Cup.

The Argentinian World Player Of The Year has revealed he performs as guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER.Hitman Messi, 23, has also recruited a Barcelona team-mate to play singer LIAM - but won’t say who it is yet.

He said: “Our disguise is based on how Oasis looked in the mid-90s. We have our wigs, clothes and glasses sorted.”

If you were Messi, you would be pretty awesome. You’re not, though, which means there might be a prize in it for you!

Messi also told The Sun this tidbit:

He said: “We’ll visit the UK. If you’re at a pub or club where we are performing and see past our disguises there’ll be a decent prize in it for you.“So, Britons reading this report, prepare yourselves for the best scavenger hunt of the first fortnight of August 2010! Noel Gallagher’s only 5’8”, and Messi’s 5’7”, so height won’t be your tipoff, but between the potential for Carles Puyol joining the Magical Messi-try Tour and the likelihood that there aren’t very many Oasis cover bands with international soccer stars in them, I don’t think claiming the prize will be very hard.

Of course, considering Messi’s non-soccer hobbies appear to be limited to his obsession with Oasis, you might not want the prize. It could turn out to be Stop the Clocks on vinyl. I don’t think even Oasis liked that album.
