New Sheriff In Town: Shea Weber Named Nashville Predators Captain

Jason Arnott's transfer to the New Jersey Devils last month ensured the Nashville Predators would have a fresh face as captain. Heading into the 2010-2011 season, that player will be none other than Shea Weber, the elite defenseman who can accept any responsibilities on the ice.

The 24-year-old has accomplished feats such as accumulating 39 goals from the blue line in the past two years, wiring a puck through a net and winning Olympic gold with Team Canada. As the fifth captain in franchise history, Weber will oversee Nashville’s room in just his sixth National Hockey League campaign.

From NHL.com:

“In addition to being one of the top young defenseman in the League today, Shea is a natural leader, and we are confident he has the respect of his teammates, opponents, the Predators organization and its fans,” Nashville GM David Poile said. “He becomes the first Predators draft pick to be named captain, and has been part of the culture and belief system we have worked hard to create.”
