Does Tyreke Evans’ Ugly Speeding Arrest Matter On The Court?

Tyreke Evans got popped for reckless driving back in May, but the California Highway Patrol only just released the video of his arrest. It’s bad stuff: Evans is zipping at 120 miles per hour or more on Interstate 80, police speculate that he’s racing another driver, and his eventual arrest happens at gunpoint. None of that is a good look.

But is Evans being criticized unfairly by the Sacramento press? Sactown Royalty’s Tom Ziller thinks so, and he fires back at Ailene Voisin, author of a column suggesting Evans’ arrest be used to reduce his role with the Kings:

(It) all just adds up to personal bias getting in the way of basic reason. That will sting.

Voisin is becoming too blinded by her dislike of Evans to report on him while making any semblance of sense. She’s losing touch with reality, and Kings fans who read The Bee looking for actual insight and thoughtful commentary are the losers. There are more pointed words from Ziller at Sactown Royalty, but the idea that a guy who can do everything Evans does on the court should be curtailed because of a boneheaded decision to drive alarmingly fast in a purple Mercedes seems to, at least, conflate personal mistakes with professional limitations.

At most, it might well be an idea floated by a columnist with an ax to grind.
