Earlham College, for those of you not up on your lesser elements of college football, is not worthy of too much scrutiny by the average workaday fan of the game. It’s an itty-bitty program in Indiana, with athletes competing in D-III, and its athletic department website touts such accomplishments as a former quarterback catching on with the Indoor Football League.
Somebody Get Earlham College Some Spotlight
It’s also a program that richly deserves to ascend the divisional ranks, because according to an alumni source who spoke recently with SB Nation, this utter gem is one of the cheers bellowed or sung at rugby and football events:
Fight fight inner light
Kill, Quakers, kill
Knock ‘em down, beat ‘em senseless
Do it ‘til we reach consensus!
But don’t think they’re thugs, these Quakers. Smart-kid cheers abound:
Fight exuberantly!
Fight exuberantly!
Compel them to relinquish the ball!
Whom can we speak to about this? Can we pass a hat? What must be done to get the Quakers into D-II, into the FCS, onto national television? They’d be pulverized to rice pudding in Columbus, but this beats the daylights out of “O-H!” by a gulfy margin.
