International soccer fandom pretty much wipes the grass with anything we can find stateside, a claim that can now extend to facilities. America has its share of natural disasters when it comes to our own football stadiums, from the intentional (the JerryDome) to the tragically not (whatever they’re calling Jacksonville Municipal this year). They’re all about to be trumped by Estadio Omnilife, a new Mexican soccer facility “intended to evoke the aesthetics of a volcano rising from the countryside.” Charming!
Volcano Stadium Combines Green Technology With Imminent Doom
↵Designed to hold more than 45,000 spectators for home matches featuring the C.D. Guadalajara soccer club - better known as Chivas - the stadium features numerous technological advances as well as green-friendly infrastructure seen in few other Mexican sports facilities.↵Here, walk into this symbol of encroaching, inevitable fiery death and partake of sport! What’s not to love? Future projects include Tokyo’s Godzilla-Gamera Memorial Park, Atlanta’s Rapidly Encroaching Tornado Dome (wait, that happened), and the San Andreas QuakeArena Presented By Bacardi, featuring a Los Angeles-area professional football team to be named later.
