Thursday night, as part of the World Basketball Festival, which is a thing that exists, Radio City Music Hall hosted the latest edition of Team USA for an intrasquad scrimmage. The squad was split into two teams -- Mike Krzyzewski can apparently evenly split a roster of 15 players -- for a game comprised of two, 12-minutes halves.
VIDEO: Team USA Basketball Scrimmage Ends With Sudden-Death Overtime
I didn’t watch much of this game (read: none), but from what I could tell, it was about as interesting as you’d expect a 24-minute intrasquad practice to be in Radio City Music Hall, with fans and players alike seemingly more excited for the Jay-Z concert that was to follow the basketball (note: the concert was pretty good).
But the game did offer at least one moment of interest: a sudden-death overtime.
Regulation ended with both sides tied, 47-47. And they decided the outcome with a first-team-to-score, wins.
What you’re about to see is likely the first sudden-death overtime you’ve ever seen in basketball.
The World Basketball Festival continues with events at Rucker Park in Harlem on Friday.
