“Our approach is that we have to see a lot of pitches, then you have to get a good pitch to hit, ” said Ruiz about the team’s mindset in facing Broxton. “So that’s what we did tonight. We were working the count. I was going to the plate relaxed and thinking ‘Charlie gave me the go for it’ to get a hit in what was a bunt situation.”
Los Angeles got the run back in the top of the fifth on a Belliard sacrifice fly that scored Theriot, who deftly slid around the tag of Ruiz at the plate just ahead of Ibanez’s throw from left field.
